This new year brings the state of North Carolina a multi-billion dollar deficit and in hopes of getting his states of of the hole, Governor Bev Perdue may be considering something extreme in the eyes of many: gambling. In recent interviews, Governor Perdue has made clear remarks show that he is at least willing to explore the possibility of gambling regulation and who knows, perhaps in the future this will be yet another states to be opened to the realms of online casinos.
During the last year, Internet cafes and remote gambling businesses were red hot in North Carolina. However, the biggest concern on everyones mind is the question over whether the cafes are actually legal. North Carolina is not receiving tax revenue from the casino games that are being played all across the state. However, it’s safe to say that many residents visit online casinos simply t play free slot games and others. In North Carolina police and law enforcement agents can seize the video machine games if the establishment offers casino-style slot outcomes. Some manufacturers have gone as far as altering the appearance of the machines for the businesses within the state.
Governor Perdue has stated that she will look into all possible avenues to lower the budget deficit in the states, even those that may be controversial in nature for many. The gambling issue is a topic that will be undoubtedly discussed and heavily debated by lawmakers if the governor decides to move forward with the idea of regulating games like video gambling. This is one governor that has shown in the past that she is not afraid of making tough decisions on the issue of gambling. Purdue was the deciding vote several years ago in creating a state lottery for North Carolina. Many other states have not only regulated their video gambling industry, but also authorized full scale casino gambling.
